“Who is the Beast?” is beautifully written and illustrated by Keith Baker. A tiger discovers that the jungle animals are frightened of him. He shows them that they have traits that are similar to him. By doing so, the animals stop running away when he is near.
I love the idea of looking for similarities instead of differences. Isn’t that a better way to live in society? I wish certain world leaders would read this book! .
The words are repetitive and gentle. The quiet rhythm makes a great bedtime story. Also, the richly colored pictures evoke quiet scenes to slow things down for a good night’s sleep.

Activity
Objective: I can match the picture to the question.
Supplies:
Activity Sheets, green and yellow markers or crayons, and scissors.
Directions:
- Cut around each rectangle.on the bold lines.
- With a green marker or crayon, color the eyes of the snake. and the tiger.
- With a yellow marker or crayon, color the white stripes of the bee and the tiger.
- Make a stack of pictures and a stack of questions. Mix up each stack . Turn over the first picture and question. Read the question to your child. If the picture is not a match, put both aside. Choose another set. Continue until you have matched all the questions to the pictures.
For example: The bee matches the question that asks, Who is the beast that has yellow and black stripes? The tiger is matched with the question with all of the clues. You could also play a memory game by mixing up all of the cards and place them face-down in rows. Choose two cards and see if the question matches the picture. If not , turn them back to the blank sides and choose two more. If a picture that you chose before, matches the question you turned over, try to guess where it was by turning over one card. If it matches, set aside the matching set and continue the game until all are matched.
